Hey all!

I met Emily in Winston-Salem, North Carolina back in 1988(?). It was after they had played for a small local club--they were still starting out back then and doing the south east local circuits. I was bartending at one of the gay bars there, "Bourbon Street." I saw her walk in the door with about 4 people walking around her. I looked her straight in the eyes and said, "God do you look familiar!" The crowd pushed us apart and not 2 seconds later, I realized who I'd spoken to. I'd been in love with Amy Ray since the day I first laid eyes on her. I ended up buying Emily a beer (she was drinking a Bud from a bottle) later. End of story. I've never been able to meet Amy and 20 years after I first saw her, I still get butterflies...

Anyone else?

how to get a specific indigo girls bootleg? i'm looking for the one from Central Park Summerstage 10-01-2003. it was the first IG concert that we ever went to together and it was very special for us. i wanted to get a bootleg of it for valentine's day. she'd love it. i've been trying to find it for a little while now but you usually have to trade 1 for 1 for bootlegs but , of course, i have nothing to offer as far as bootlegs go. if anyone has any ideas on where i could find this, it would be so appreciated. thanks for checkin' this message out. mel

New CD! IG Rarities

Found on the Sony Music site. Release date is 6/14/05.

Track List:
1. Clampdown
2. I Don't Wanna Talk About It
3. Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
4. Let Me Go Easy
5. Winthrop
6. Free Of Hope
7. Shed Your Skin
8. Never Stop
9. Ghost
10. Uncle John's Band
11. I'll Give You My Skin (featuring Michael Stipe)
12. Free In You
13. Point Hope
14. Ramblin' Round
15. Cold As Ice
16. Walk Your Valley
17. It Won't Take Long
18. Finlandia

Interesting selection. I'm glad to see Point Hope on there. I bought the download from Sony years ago, but when i changed computers I couldn't get the license without paying for it again which I refused to do. And some of these songs are hardly rarities. I mean come on! Ghost? Rare? Beautiful and haunting, yes. But not rare. There is one song on there that I dont recognize at all, Walk Your Valley. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it new, a cover that I somehow missed, or something really, really old that I somehow missed?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm excited to have good recordings of Winthrop and Finlandia and I can't wait to hear this new (?) song.
New Tribe - off topic or not???

Hi gang.

I just created a new tribe (see below) and my first impulse was to come invite everyone from this tribe. I figured that you all must be such amazing people if you love the Indigo Girls. Then, I thought, "no, this is a tribe about music, best not to post it here."...but then I thought, this is an issue that the Indigo Girls would get behind themselves so after all it's not that inappropriate! So, if you'll pardon the interruption, here ya go!

=======================

The pleasure of your participation is requested.

Tribe.net has its first tribe dedicated solely to the legal rights of animals - and you're invited!

http://tribes.tribe.net/animalrights

This tribe is dedicated to the promotion and enshrinement in national and international law of the rights of non-human animals to live free from human exploitation and to live in harmony with their nature, rather than according to human desires. Here, we discuss philosophy and news related to the positive progress towards these rights.

We also discuss why the establishment of laws (and attitudes) that protect the dignity and inherent worth of non-human animals is in our *own* interest (this is known as Enlightened Self-Interest).

As Arthur Schopenhauer said:

"All truth passes through three stages:
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."

I believe we are transitioning from the second to the third stage. Please join me in welcoming it.

If you care about the fate of non-human animals, indeed if you care about the fate of *humans*, I urge you to join the tribe and facilitate the move towards a better world for us all.

Thank you.

http://tribes.tribe.net/animalrights
Girlyman w/s/g Lindsay Mac and Jules Piper - 6/11/05 - Albany, NY

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to tell you all about this upcoming show – GIRLYMAN with special guests Lindsay Mac and Jules Piper!!

If you haven't heard of Girlyman yet, just wait, because you will! They are incredible! They toured this past fall opening for the Indigo Girls, and are going on tour with them again this summer.

Imagine if the Indigo Girls got together with Paul Simon and created Peter, Paul & Mary - only sexier, and with a quirky sense of humor.

Now, with that creative, gender-confused nostalgia in mind, get ready for Doris Muramatsu, Ty Greenstein, and Nate Borofsky - long-time musicians and friends who found themselves making beautiful music together in their shared Brooklyn apartment.

Together, the three members of Girlyman create a rich, poignant, playful sound that crosses genres and genders.

Girlyman's harmony-driven style veers from urban folk to country rock to calypso doo-wop, and the songwriters effortlessly switch off lead vocals and play a range of instruments. Writes the Hartford Courant, "Girlyman is an infectious combination of rock music, folk songs, classical roots, punk sensibilities and just plain fun."

Cellist and singer-songwriter Lindsay Mac offers a fresh look at acoustic music by combining folk/pop structure with plucked and bowed cello. Lindsay has recently opened for k.d. lang and is now touring in support of her debut album, "Small Revolution".

Boston native Jules Piper has shared the CDGLCC music series stage with Pamela Means, Adrianne and local favorite Paddy Kilrain. Jules is currently living in NYC and working on her debut solo album.

When, Where and How Much:

8 PM, First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, 405 Washington Ave., Albany, NY. General Admission, All Ages.

$10 in advance, $12 at the door. Call 518-462-6138 to charge by phone for advance tickets.

Seating is limited! Purchase your tickets early!

Check out the event listing here --> http://newyorkstate.tribe.net/event/e8fa6d92-bb84-45a2-9a0a-089a8d5b154f?tribeid=15196e64-afe3-48db-a0e4-eed86ff13aec&nextpage=http%3A%2F%2Fnewyorkstate.tribe.net%2Ftribe%2F15196e64-afe3-48db-a0e4-eed86ff13aec%3Fr%3D10667&r=10667

Hi All,

I just found out that the Indigo Girls are scheduled to play this
year's Clearwater Festival in Hudson, NY. According to the Indigo
Girls website they will be playing on Sunday, June 19. They are not
mentioned anywhere on the Clearwater site yet, but the Sunday schedule does mention "special guests" to perform at the closing ceremony. :-)

Tickets for the festival are $35 for a day ticket (good for either
Saturday or Sunday) or $50 for the weekend before May 31 (members: $30/$45). After that the price goes up to $40/$55 (members: $35/$50) before June 17, and then $45/$60 at the gate.

You can get tickets online at the Clearwater Festival site, http://www.clearwater.org/revival05/tickets.html or by calling 1-800-67-SLOOP (75667) or 845-454-7673.

See you there!

I finally found the Indigo Girls Tribe:) I am a devoted fan since 1989, when they first hit the airwaves and MTV, and have seen them an even dozen times! It's so good to hook up with others that understand the poetry and musical genius of these women and the talent that surrounds them! Thank you all for being aware!! I AM bummed not to see any Oregon shows on their tour bill, though:(

Just saw the show at Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA on Saturday night with Shawn Mullin opening. They were amazing as usual! They loved the crowd so much they added an extra song at the end of the second encore, "American Tune." I had only heard that one on old bootleg tapes so it was awesome to actually get to see it done live.

Do you have your tickets yet for the summer tour? Where are you going to see the Girls?

I was bummed to find that I'd be out of town to see the two shows I always look forward to on the Pier in Seattle. However, I do have tickets to see them at Berkley in July!

So, they sales clerk told me that I was officially the first person to buy the new album today. I'm listening to it and love every song! I don't always feel that way, I really disliked _Become You_ and was lukewarm about _Shaming of the Sun_.

BTW, if you buy the album from an independent seller, a 30 minute concert DVD is included.

Catch the Girls on TV

I just got sent this message from the Indigo Girls newsletter:

Mark your calendars for the week of March 7th. If you watch TV, it will
be hard to miss the Indigo Girls performing. Double check scheduled
times for your time zone:

Monday, March 8 - The Today Show at 8:45 am
Thursday, March 11 - The View at 11:00 am-12:00 pm
Saturday, March 13 - CBS Saturday Morning 7:00 am - 9:00 am

March 12 or the next week - Charlie Rose
March 14 or 21 - A&E Breakfast for the Arts

You all can guess what I think about the new Indigo Girls album. But
don't take my word for it - read what the critics have to say!

"There's a lightness about the Indigo Girls' ninth album, even on the
songs about heartbreak. Nineteen years into their career, the duo shows
it can still surprise listeners..."
Rolling Stone

"Amy Ray and Emily Saliers' new CD, All That We Let In," is another gem
in the duo's prolific career."
Seattle Post Intelligencer

"While the rest of All doesn't stray far from their signature acoustics
and harmonies, the Girls avoid rehashing the past -- impressive after
two decades"
Entertainment Weekly B+

"Nine studio albums into their career, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray are
still impressive musicians, compelling vocalists and illustrative
songwriters."
Atlanta Journal Constitution

"The title ballad is gorgeously tender, and friskier tunes such as
"Fill It Up Again" and "Perfect World" are delivered with a light touch
that tempers their heavier sentiments. Who says an old cult favorite can't
learn new tricks?"
USA Today *** out of four

"Like a perfectly worn pair of blue jeans, the Indigo Girls continue to
make for a most comfortable fit on their ninth studio album."
People Magazine *** out of four

"As the Indigo Girls' body of work grows, their music continues to be
impressive. Always glued together by Amy and Emily's harmonies and a
certain knack for memorable, fluid melodies, the Girls' sound has grown
from a compact two-guitar folk assault into full-bodied music that
embraces blues, soul, rock and world music."
Performing Songwriter

"Much like, say, AC/DC, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have deftly
cultivated a legacy that's earned them the right to be utterly impervious to
criticism....All That We Let In, their ninth studio record, seems sweeter
and breezier than the Girls' previous few releases, and the record is
stronger for it."
Billboard

OK.. so I heard on the mountain today that the Indigo Girls will be at the Triple Door next Tuesday. There wasn't a lot of info, but they said at first they think it will be a first come, first serve basis. I'm getting the day off just in case..but they said they'd have more specs tomorrow. If you've never been there, this place has INCREDIBLE sound quality and the club is just really cool to boot. I can't wait to go! :)

Beyond the Music

So, one of the reasons I love the Indigo Girls is because of their passionate social views and their commitment to them. I recently saw them on the Honor Earth Tour with Winonna LaDuke and was blown away by not only their knowledge of indigenous environmental issues, but also by their ability to be open and civil with those who oppose their views. Do you have any opinions about how politics affects the way you enjoy the Indigo Girls, or any artist, or is it all about the music?
